WHAT WE DO

HARAF as an organisation designed to reach the needs of the unreached without barriers. We plan projects to target the needs of the vulnerable and out of spotlight communities. Offering support to affected victims/ survivors with emergency humanitarian needs with relief materials, provide psychosocial support for the traumatized and restore livelihood. Raise awareness on pressing issues confronting the society; like STI/HIV/AIDS, infant, maternal nutrition. Advocating for peace building among religion and ethnic affiliation, promoting community participation in the education of the girl child and mitigate poverty through small scale enterprises and agriculture for women and youths.

WHO WE ARE

Hope and rural aid foundation is a local non-governmental organisation that works nation-wide with major focus in Northeast Nigeria to promote health, education, food security and livelihood; supporting the needs of internally displaced persons, and serving the vulnerable. We have a workforce of about 25 and a growing community of more than 75 volunteers cut across our different working sectors within the North eastern states of Nigeria. With our head office situated in Adamawa state, we have branches in Borno and Yobe states. Our field offices are located in strategic hard to reach areas; Mungono Local government area of Borno state and Michika LGA of Adamawa state.

All our projects cuts across susceptible areas across contact locations which includes; Michika, Madagali, Hong, Song, Gombi, Fufore, Guyuk, Demsa, Numan, Mayo-Belwa, Jada, Ganye, Yola North and South, Dikwa, Ngwoza, Mungono, MMC, Yobe, Geidam, Fika, Bade, Potiskum local government areas.

HARAF foot soldiers are trained and equipped to navigate across reviving communities hugely devasted from the mpact of the insurgents. We are on a journey with these survivors, unravelling the uncertainties of tomorrow and hoping for a better future for the family as a whole. We’ve built a strong security communication chain –culture for both our in house, field staffs- foot soldiers (community based volunteers). We also have a clear mapping and strong alliance with the community leaders and government presence in all our operative locations

GOAL

Our goal is to ensure that millions of disadvantaged people have access to basic health emergencies, provide food- shelter aid, women empowerment, non-formal education and girl child support.

For education coverage, we:

  • Local Chicken Improved Production Techniques
  • Food (Staple food) distribution 980 HHs Adamawa
  • Cash Transfer Intervention 200 women headed HHs Adamawa
  • Rainy season farm input distribution

    • For health and wellness programme, we:

  • Educative programme on sex education prepare for emergencies by identifying, mitigating and managing risks
  • Prevent emergencies and support development of tools necessary during outbreaks
  • Detect and respond to acute health emergencies
  • GBV case management; Here, we use the survivor centered approach as well as following all the case management processes to case manage survivors who are individuals that have face any form of Gender Based Violence
  • Psychosocial Support; Here, we provide all forms of psychosocial assistance to GBV survivors which include
  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Emotional support
  • Recreational activities like dara games, ludo games, volley ball games etc
  • Informal education for adolescent girls and boys.
  • Livelihood support program through skill acquisition program; here women and girls are engaged in learning and acquiring skills as a means of empowerment to reduce poverty.
  • Provision of dignity kits and NFI kits and engage in preventing and mitigating GBV causes like:
  • sensitization and awareness
  • Focused group discussion
  • Community Advocacy visits
  • Community Dialogue sessions
  • Support delivery of essential health services in fragile settings.
  • Train the health workforce
  • Support people's participation in national health policies

    Psychosocial support: we help to provide services to help reduce traumatic stress on our survivors and help to facilitate recovery of our survivors from psychological effects of GBV, Individual counselling, Group counselling, Emotional support, Informal education for adolescent boys and girls. Skill acquisition and livelihood empowerment: we help to train survivors and vulnerable women and girls to have a means of livelihood through skills learnt so as to help reduce poverty which is a major contributing factor to GBV, We a carry out this activity at our women and girls’ safe space. We also do preventive activities: These include; Community sensitization and awareness sessions on GBV in other to prevent/mitigate GBV, Focused group discussion: we meet with group of men, boys, women and girls and discuss key issues within their camp and develop a community-based mechanism to reduce GBV Community dialogue and advocacy: Through this, we then to educate the community leaders on GBV and women rights in society. We are also into distribution of Dignity kits to ensure the dignity of our women and girls in area of intervention.

    PROJECTS

    Shelter and NFI’s

    HARAF provides life-saving emergency shelter assistance to 1000 most vulnerable people in conflict-affected areas of Michika and Madagali in 2018/2019 ensuring that assistance is timely and appropriate and meets relevant technical standards, and also seeks to ensure that all assistance promotes the protection, safety and dignity of affected people, and is provided equitably to women, girls, men and boys.

    HARAF provide NFI kits to 1000 HH in Adamawa in 2019/2020. The project targeted new arrivals to camps and internally displaced persons in Camp like settings providing them with muti-sectoral response in Non-Food Items.

    The Objective of the sector is to develop an effective response mechanism to NFIs needs of Internally Displaced Persons targeting House Holds by Providing NFIs for better and lifesaving living conditions of affected New Arrivals across board.
